But in order to get the best prices there is one very important factor that you must consider every time you buy an airline ticket, and that factor has to do with when you should buy your airline ticket.

When You Buy vs. The Date of Your Flight

If you are a frequent traveler then you are well aware of the fact that the date of your actual travel plans can affect the cost of your airline tickets, but this is not the only time frame that factors into the cost. The date that you actually make the travel reservations can also affect the price, as there are certain times of the year that airlines will lower the price of tickets to certain destinations.

Sometimes when you purchase these discounted airline tickets you may be required to travel by a certain date, or during a certain time frame, but if you have the ability to be flexible it will be well worth it in regards to overall costs. The problem is, it is difficult to keep track of the best times to buy airline tickets because the airline industry is one that is constantly changing, not to mention, when the sales take place will depend on where you are going as well.

There are some general tips to keep in mind, though, in order to have a better idea as to when a sale is going to take place.

When Is The Best Time To Buy Airline Tickets

When Is The Best Time To Buy Airline Tickets

Buying airline tickets in the past was a pretty simple, cut and dry task. You simply called the airline you wished to travel with, you would tell them when you wanted to travel , and you would book your flight. This was before the days of internet, though, and it was during a time when there were very few airlines compared to what you have available to you today. Now, with the long list of airlines that travel to all different places throughout the world, and with the amazing marketing tool that the internet has become, the process of booking a flight has changed dramatically. This is good news for you, the consumer, though, because it means better prices for airline tickets, better options for in flight arrangements, and more choices in airlines.

Length of Time From Your Travel Date

There are many different suggestions as to how long before your flight you should buy your airline ticket, but there is a general consensus that is agreed upon. While last minute deals can sometimes be found, you will most likely find the cheapest tickets if you book about a month and a half to two months in advance of your travel date. This time frame is different if you are traveling to a more popular destination during its peak season. If this is more similar to your situation then you will want to buy your tickets more like three months in advance.

Time of the Year

It is the general consensus that you will get the best price for your airline tickets if you make the reservations during the early fall months. This has much to do with the fact that there are so few people traveling in the fall. Since the airlines still need to make money they encourage business by offering some pretty good sales on tickets to certain destinations. Of course, if you're going to book a flight to a popular destination and actually travel during a peak time then the tickets will still be a little pricey. But if you're flexible you will be surprised at the deals you can find when you look to purchase during the fall.

Day of the Week

For a long time it has been thought that the beginning to the middle of the week was the best time to buy airline tickets but new studies suggest otherwise. Although you can still no doubt find a good deal on a Tuesday or Wednesday, recent findings are showing that the best deals may be available when you make your purchase on the weekend. The reason for this is said to be that those purchasing on weekends tend to be on the lookout for bargains and that the airlines give them what they want by sometimes offering lower prices on certain flights.

The Best Time of Day to Buy

Finally, it is also important to point out that the time of day that you make your purchase can determine what you will pay as well. When making purchases on weekdays, the midnight hour is the golden hour. This is when ticket prices are reported to be the lowest. This has a lot to do with the time that airlines post the most recent rates. During the weekend days the time is not as important, but you should be sure to check prices between 12 and 1 am if you are buying on a weekday.

The airline ticket market is one that is ever changing, so it is difficult to follow it closely. With these guidelines, though, you can be a step ahead of the rest when it comes to finding the best prices for airline tickets.
